A review of teacher education and school induction programs was one of several projects described in the implementation plan of the A Flying Start for Queensland Children Green Paper (PDF, 1.5MB).
Its purpose is to review and report on how teachers are prepared for professional practice in Queensland, and to provide timely advice for improving teacher preparation and induction into the profession.
On 27 April, 2010 Professor Brian Caldwell and Mr David Sutton were appointed by the then Minister for Education and Training as joint leaders of the review.
The first report (PDF, 801KB) and second report (PDF, 455KB) of the Review of Teacher Education and School Induction made a total of 65 recommendations to the Queensland Government.
By December 2012, 24 of these recommendations had been implemented by the department and the Queensland College of Teachers. A further 41 were referred to a Teacher Education Implementation Taskforce for further analysis and consideration for further analysis.
The Teacher Education Implementation Taskforce report (PDF, 480KB) made a number of recommendations which were considered by the Newman Government.
On 22 July, 2013 the government released the A Fresh Start strategy in response to the Taskforce report.
